Dog & Cat Grooming in Lubbock

Pampered Paws has groomed dogs and cats in Lubbock since 2000. Our shop is at 5201 13th St., on the corner of 13th and Slide, and our staff is dedicated, experienced and caring. When your pet comes in for grooming, your experience - and your pet's comfort - comes first.

Whether your dog needs a quick tidy-up, a full breed trim or a hand-stripped wire coat, or your cat needs a careful brush-out, we will listen to what you want and tell you what we recommend. Call 806-793-7387 to book.

Grooming Services for Dogs

Every dog is different, so every groom starts with a short conversation: your dog's coat, its age, any skin or health concerns, and the look you want. A typical grooming visit can include a bath, brushing, a haircut or trim, and attention to nails and ears. Tell us what your dog needs and we will confirm exactly what is included and the price before we begin.

Breed trims and everyday haircuts

Some owners want a classic breed-standard look; others want something short and easy to care for between visits. Both are fine. Bring a photo if you have a style in mind - it is the quickest way to make sure we picture the same cut.

Hand stripping for wire-coated breeds

Wire-coated dogs such as many terriers have an outer coat that is meant to be removed by hand rather than clipped. Hand stripping keeps the coat's harsh texture and rich color, while clipping can leave it soft and faded over time. Ask us about hand stripping if your dog has a wiry coat.

Creative styling and coat dyeing

Want something fun for a holiday, a birthday or just because? Ask us about creative styling and coat dyeing. We will talk through the colors, the placement and how long the look should last, and tell you honestly whether your dog's coat is a good fit. Coat color should only ever be applied with products made for pets.

Cat Grooming

Cats - especially long-haired cats - can develop mats that are uncomfortable and hard to brush out at home. We offer grooming for cats as well as dogs, from brush-outs and mat removal to baths. Let us know about your cat's temperament when you book so we can plan a calm, efficient visit.

How Often Should Your Pet Be Groomed?

The right schedule depends on the coat:

  • Continuously growing coats (for example Poodles, doodle mixes, Shih Tzus and Yorkies) usually need a haircut every four to eight weeks to stay comfortable and mat-free.
  • Double coats (for example Pomeranians, Huskies and many shepherd breeds) benefit from regular brushing and de-shedding, especially during seasonal sheds. Talk to us before shaving a double coat.
  • Wire coats are usually hand stripped a few times a year, with tidy-ups in between.
  • Short, smooth coats may only need a bath and nail care every couple of months, plus brushing at home.

If you are not sure, ask us at your next visit - we can suggest a schedule that fits your pet and your budget.

Grooming Tips for Lubbock's Climate

West Texas weather is hard on coats and skin. Hot summers make a well-maintained coat important, wind and dust work their way into fur, and dry winter air can leave skin itchy and flaky. A few habits help between grooms:

  • Brush several times a week to remove dust and loose undercoat before it mats.
  • Check paws and the coat after walks for grass burrs and goathead stickers.
  • Keep nails short so your dog walks comfortably on hard floors and pavement.
  • Ask about the skin care products, supplements and diets we carry in our pet food and supplies section if your pet has dry or itchy skin.

Preparing for a Grooming Appointment

  • Call 806-793-7387 to book and ask how long the visit will take.
  • Give your dog a short walk before drop-off.
  • Tell us about any health issues, skin sensitivities, recent surgery or behavior concerns.
  • Bring your pet's vaccination records - call us to confirm which vaccinations we require.
  • Let us know the best number to reach you when your pet is ready.

Your Puppy's First Grooming Visit

The earlier a puppy gets used to being bathed, brushed and handled, the easier grooming will be for the rest of its life. A first visit is mostly about building good associations: getting comfortable with the sounds, the table and gentle handling of paws, ears and face. At home, you can help by touching your puppy's paws and ears often, brushing for a few minutes a day and rewarding calm behavior. Call us to talk about when your puppy is ready for a first visit and which vaccinations we will need to see.

Signs It Is Time for a Groom

  • Mats or tangles behind the ears, under the legs or around the collar.
  • Nails clicking on the floor or catching on carpet.
  • Hair growing over the eyes or trapping debris around the paws.
  • A stronger-than-usual odor, or a dull, dusty coat.
  • Heavy shedding around the house during seasonal coat changes.

Grooming Questions We Hear Often

Do you groom cats as well as dogs?

Yes. Pampered Paws has groomed both dogs and cats since 2000. Let us know your cat's coat type and temperament when you book so we can plan the visit.

What is hand stripping?

Hand stripping removes the dead outer coat by hand instead of cutting it. It is the traditional way to keep a wire coat crisp and its color rich, and it is mainly used on terriers and other wire-coated breeds.

Can you dye my dog's coat?

Ask us about creative styling and coat dyeing. We will talk through colors and placement and tell you whether your pet's coat is a good candidate.

How do I book a grooming appointment?

Call us at 806-793-7387 or stop by 5201 13th St. We are open Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday 7:30 am to 3:00 pm.
